June Goals Update

2008

YAWN - I am officially sick of checking on the status of my goals... The commitment to revisit them each month this year has really kept me on track, but it sure is getting old! Anyhow, we're halfway through 2008 now, so I guess looking at them again is a good thing and here I go:

1. Get my work into three more galleries.

Two down, one to go, and I'm taking a break from the gallery search for the summer.

2. Complete 100 paintings.

Painted five this month. I was focusing on completing some larger paintings, so I didn't really care about quantity - I was just feeling like I needed to push my work a little bit, and working bigger is where I wanted to go. That makes 46 down, 54 to go.

3. Sell enough work to pay our mortgage.

Done so far. Although we sold the house in Denver so I guess I don't officially have a mortgage to pay right now (we're renting while we build the house up here)!

4. Update painting database and financial records monthly.

Done. I'm finding that this is really important now that I have more galleries - it's good to be on top of the database so I know where everything is.

5. Race in a minimum of three 5k's.

A friend and I ran in a local 5 mile race today, which was a big confidence booster. I had to take a couple of walk breaks since I'm not really up to running 5 miles at this point (a 5k would have been a better length), but my time was decent and I'm making progress!

Maybe I'm getting bored with statusing these goals because I'm actually making decent progress? I don't know... Anyhow, we've had a tiring two days of fun in the sun for July 4th, so I'm going to go to sleep now at 8 pm. Does that make me old?

  1. Thank you for checking in on your goals "out loud" so that folks like me can be inspired to check in on our own and to celebrate with you the reaching of your dreams. I took a couple of art magazines to the gym today to enjoy as I walked on the treadmill, and saw your ad in Southwest Art! It was such a thrill to see you there. Hope you get some good sleep tonight.

  2. hi stacey, no matter how redundant posting your goals may seem, i say 'bravo to you'....i set goals, have to do lists, and notes everywhere, a comprehensive date book and yet some weeks i get nowhere. i don't know how you do it with a toddler....i know how hard it is. congratulations on really sticking to your goals and obviously succeeding at them and way to go on that 5-mile race...so you walked a bit, you still did it!!

  3. This might be a little self centered of me, but I hope you keep posting your goal status report. It is inspirating to me and a model I wish to emulate when I go part-time...in 21 DAYS!!!

You do such wonderful paintings and prove that even artists can be disciplined professionals. Which means, at times, doing things we don't care to do because they are the right things to do. Brava!!

  4. Goals and art -- two things near and dear to my own heart! Stacey, it's good to meet you through Facebook and you can bet I'll be coming up to Winter Park to paint with you. I love your work - its "chunky softness" has such a powerful and evocative feel to it. I applaud you on your goal setting and attaining and say, "go, go, go!" You have inspired me!

  5. Way to go, Stacey, you're on track for the year! There's no sense in creating goals unless you use them as signposts to help determine what you need to be doing.

RE: last post on making the leap -- yes you certainly did make the right decision if you're smiling bigger because of it. It's good to look back on that sort of thing!

  6. Stacy, I don't remember the path I took to find your blog, but I'm glad I did. It's one thing to have goals, but another thing to achieve them. You are doing both. You go girl!

  7. Thanks for the comments everyone - I'm glad to hear that I'm not completely boring everyone to tears with these repetitive posts!! I'm all about full disclosure on this blog - I figure if it helps one artist along the way, then it's worth it =)
